Ray was devoted to his community by serving on the FSA Board, The Martin Community Cemetery Board, the American Legion Post #240, Masonic Pioneer Lodge 219 and Order of the Eastern Star. He returned to Bennett County where he farmed and ranched the remainder of his life. Ray served in Vietnam for 15 months and he was honorably discharged in 1970. He taught at a country school for one year before entering the U.S. Ray attended college at South Dakota State University and Black Hills State University. He attended Pass Creek Elementary School for eight years and graduated from Bennett County High School in 1962. Ray was born on December 15, 1944, in Gordon, Neb., the second son of John A.
